Good Samaritan Medical Center’s Women’s Imaging Center is a designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging at the American College of Radiology.
The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
The Center is accredited in Mammography, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Breast Ultrasound, and Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy.
Women have come to understand the importance of regular mammograms for the early detection of breast cancer. Although breast cancer is not a common occurrence in men, mammography has also become an important tool to evaluate men with breast lumps. Having a mammogram is now easier than ever at Good Samaritan’s Breast Imaging Center. Our facility is dedicated exclusively to breast imaging and evaluation of bone density.
Our wide range of services includes screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, and 3D mammography services for routine breast cancer screenings. The 3D technology, known as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, has the capacity to digitally separate structures in the breast that can hide small cancers, improving the chances of early detection and reducing the need for follow-up imaging.
Other state of the art services include breast ultrasound and interventional procedures, including needle localization and minimally invasive stereotactic breast biopsy and we are the first in the area to provide breast MRI services, including biopsies. Bone densitometry is also an important evaluation tool for women and men suspected of having osteoporosis.
Our facility is accredited by The American College of Radiology, FDA inspected, and state approved. Each unit is equipped with a heating pad for increased patient comfort. We also have high quality dedicated breast ultrasound equipment. Our bone densitometry is performed on a GE Lunar Prodigy DEXA Scan machine, which images the lumbar spine and hips and assesses a patient’s fracture risk.
Our highly trained and qualified staff offers patients greater confidence. Our radiologists are ACR board certified. Our technologists are ARRT registered, state licensed, and certified by the Department of Public Health in Mammography. Our qualifications are your peace of mind.
We know that waiting for mammogram results is stressful. That’s why we are committed to getting your results to you as quickly as possible. Having prior mammograms for comparison greatly increases a radiologist’s ability to pick up very early breast cancers, and having your previous films available to us before your mammogram enables us to render an accurate interpretation promptly, usually within 48 hours. If your previous mammograms were done elsewhere, we ask you to provide them in advance of your appointment or we will be happy to obtain the films for you. Simply sign a medical release form and mail it back to us.
Knowing how and when you will receive your results may ease your anxiety. If your results are negative, you will receive a prompt letter from the Breast Imaging Center. If you need additional evaluation, we will call you and help you schedule what is needed. Of course, your doctor receives an official detailed report of your mammogram as well.
