The senior behavioral medicine unit provides psychiatric services to the older adult age 55 and over that may suffer with depression, anxiety, and dementia related problems, or have difficulty coping with the everyday stressors related to aging.
Our unit is a secure 16-bed inpatient program that provides a structured environment with daily programming. We provide a multidisciplinary approach that involves psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapy, physical therapy and nursing in the patient's care.
Our patients come to us from nursing homes, assisted living centers and the community. The unit is open 24/7 to admit patients. The senior behavioral unit is an acute psychiatric program licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Patients need to present with sudden changes in their behaviors, often related to another problem, or are in danger of injury to themselves or others. Patients usually stay for about seven to 10 days.
