Stroke Services at Good Samaritan

Good Samaritan Medical Center has been designated a Primary Stroke Service Hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

This certification requires that a hospital’s emergency department meets strict guidelines for treating individuals with stroke symptoms, including timely treatment of patients with thrombolytics, the clot-busting drugs considered the standard of care for treating certain kinds of strokes.

A multidisciplinary team, including emergency department physicians and nurses, neurology, radiology, pharmacy and laboratory coordinate acute stroke care.

In addition, ongoing evaluations are provided by speech, occupational and physical therapy to aid in optimal recovery. Our stroke committee meets regularly to evaluate protocols for assessment and outcome review.
