Dr. Vikas Merchia Is Among the First in United States to Receive Subspecialty Board Certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS)
Dr. Vikas Merchia, who specializes in female pelvic floor disorders, has received subspecialty board certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) also known as Urogynecology. Dr. Merchia is also Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
A member of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Dr. Merchia is one of the first physicians in the country to obtain this credential. The subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery obtained approval for board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties in 2012. This is the first year board certificates were awarded.

Dr. Merchia’s practice specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of
patients with pelvic floor disorders including: urinary incontinence,
pelvic prolapse, overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis and bladder
pain syndromes, pelvic floor dysfunction and urogynecologic fistula.
Also trained in robotic surgery, Dr. Merchia can provide a minimally invasive treatment option for most patients. His surgeries are performed at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA.
