Irma A. Alarcon is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with Clinical Specialty in Infectious Disease

Good Samaritan Medical Center welcomes Irma A. Alarcon, MD, as a new primary care physician with clinical training and an interest in Infectious Disease and HIV.  Dr. Alarcon is board certified in Internal Medicine and is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Alarcon will be treating patients at the Good Samaritan Medical Office Building at 830 Oak Street, Suite 105W, Brockton, MA.  She joins the team with Dr. Leslie A. Linares, also specializing in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.  Dr. Alarcon will begin accepting new patients immediately.

Dr. Alarcon received her medical degree from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City, Mexico.  She completed her internship at Hospital Escandon in Mexico City and advanced to Chief Intern at Universidad Panamericana with a full scholarship due to academic excellence.  She moved to Massachusetts and served as a Research Fellow in the Division of Clinical Research in Gastroenterology at Mass General and Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Alarcon completed her medical residency in Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and completed her Fellowship in Clinical Infectious Disease at Tufts Medical Center.

Before joining Good Samaritan, Dr. Alarcon did extensive research in Geographic Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Liver Disease and HIV at Tufts Medical Center, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Tufts Medical School.  Prior to that, Dr. Alarcon spent a period of time volunteering as a healthcare provider in the Rural Clinic of Secretaria de Salud in Tlalquetzala, Mexico where she provided basic healthcare needs and health education to a rural community of 5,000.  In addition she traveled to secluded areas of the country to conduct a census and provide vaccinations.

Dr. Alarcon’s academic work has appeared in numerous publications. In 2009, she was published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a co-author on bowel obstruction and ovarian cancer.  Prior to that she co-authored a paper for MDM newsletter titled “Updated Concepts in the critical management of patients infected with the HIV virus.”  Recently Dr. Alarcon has been presenting at Tufts Medical Center on various topics related to internal medicine.
